Castlepoint to Wellington... Saturday 6th May 2017

Left Castlepoint at 8am heading for Wellington with a few side trips on the way arriving at Wellington at 3.00pm. Checked into the James Cook Hotel. Sorted ourselves out re luggage as we are here for four days. Perfect day all the way that's why we went as far south to Cape Palliser the most southern point of the North Island. Just fabulous . We both really enjoyed the day. Wellington no wind and not a cloud in the sky can you believe it.

We ended up going back through Martinborough again but didn't stop this time, drove straight through.  Just stopped to take this photo of the vineyard as the area is known for its wines.

The rolling hills with all its different colours. The Waiwarapa has beautiful countryside. We keep saying look  how green  the fields are.

After driving through Martinborough  we headed down to the south coast and saw this low fog running through the valley in front of the Rimataka Mountain range.

Over the hill is the south coast.

We are now on our way around the south coast to Cape Palliser to see the lighthouse. The turn off is just before Lake Ferry and is another 50kms out there and then back again but well worth the trip to see it.
Note the curve in the bridge above.

Driving along the coast

Around the first point.

More straight road

Approaching a small township. Lots of fishing boats and tractors park there on the foreshore.

Arriving at the lighthouse. Road got a bit narrow under rock cliffs there for a small distance.

The long ladder to climb to the top but we decided not to do that. Running out of time. Picture shows only about one third of the height of it. There were some firemen doing training in their full firemen's cloths walking up and down the ladder.

Waves crashing in under the lighthouse.

So many seals everywhere sunbathing in the tussock grass enjoying this beautiful sun.

They probably grab this weather while they can as it would get very cold down here blowing in from the south.

Back along the coast heading back to Lake Ferry right down on the coast further along.

View looking over to the lake which is right on the coast. Nice car!!!!!!

Lake Ferry Hotel where we stopped for lunch. Very busy place for lunch even though it is a long way out.

Chowder soup for lunch  yum!!

After lunch went down to the beach just behind the Hotel very wild and exposed. Huge dumpers massive one couldn't even try and swim there. Doesn't look that deep but it suddenly goes down deep and you can only see half the waves from where I was standing.

The photo shows where the Lake finishes on the right and the ocean on the other side of the sand bank. People were out there cast fishing off the beach.

Left the coast now looking back across the nice farms, sea and the Rimataka Mountains.

Looking across the Lake Ferry to the Rimataku Mountain Range. Then drove up through Featherston

Drove over the Rimataka Mountain Range great views, great day to do it. Fab.

Looking to  where we are heading. Above and below photo.

Looking back where we came from.

Arrived at the James Cook Hotel and booked into a Club room  with all the little extras free breakfast and drinks and food in the lounge between.  5.00pm  to 7.00pm all on the house.

View from the Club lounge just as the sun went down.
